I’m going to say this just a few hours before US MNT takes on Argentina tonite in Venezuela. Remember that it is a young US team that will be playing tonite.
Last nite Mexico beat Brazil who is ranking #3 by official FIFA rankings. We can say that would make Mexico the #2 team in the world. Mexico also happens to be the #2 team in CONCACAF, who recently lost to the United States who then becomes the #1 team in the world.
I refuse to believe it isn’t true until I see someone beat them. So far Bradley has 9 wins and 1 tie. Thats a pretty good run for sure.

I’m tired of hearing how the U.S. is fielding a very young team tonight, that Brazil fielded a very inexperienced team yesterday, and on and on!!!
Without giving Mexico A LOT of credit!
Mexico played without Oswaldo, Osorio, Salcido, Pardo, Guardado and Borgetti, and with a squad that had never played together before!!!
I think it’s a flag of convenience for teams to send a bunch of inexperienced players, so that when they get throttled, they can blame it on that fact. The U.S. can keep dreaming that they’re a better team than Mexico, but they still have to prove it to the rest of the world!
RE: USA vs Mexico
I don’t know the exact number off the top of my head, but the US has been dominant over Mexico over the past decade, and we are current CONCACAF Champions. Mexico finished in 2nd place with all those players you mentioned.
So I wonder how you can say the U.S. is dreaming?
I don’t believe any team sends a young team so they have an excuse. It is too bad if that does happen. As in the case of the US, there are different priorities, and Copa America does not have to be priority #1 for everyone.
Since 2000 the U.S. is 9-2-1 vs. Mexico. Hardly dreaming.
Mexico is much greater a team than the U.S. will have the opportunity to become prior to this upcoming 2010 World Cup. Mexico lost a good game to the U.S. in the Copa Oro (or as you gringos say the “Gold Cup”). Mexico plainly has a lot more depth in its players than does its American squad’s counterpart.
Oh, and right before the U.S. meets Argentina I shall predict Argentina 2 and U.S. 0. That’s me being optimistic with the U.S. team. Argentina is coming to this tournament stacked.
Well, we all saw how the #1 seat was taken the US. There cant be a fitting result. And Mike u hav grossly underestimated!
ok 1 won at diving lets face it USA = OVERRATED yes ok deal with it player with out any dept and only win on bad calls ha 1 ha let me laugh again
I hope you’re having a laugh, if not, you’re an idiot. Play someone outside of the US. Oh wait, you did, and got your asses handed to you. The best team the US could have fielded would have lost just as bad.
You know nothing about football.
I know nothing about football. I would expect that from some, but not from Liverpool.
We are all fans of the same great game here. Don’t take everything so serious and then bash me or the US for it. I don’t really think US is #1 or even close to it, and I didn’t expect readers to think that was serious. But I do believe the US is better than a lot of you give them credit for.
Good job to Argentina, they won a game in impressive fashion last night. The US will be back and hopefully be better for that experience.
Now continue with the US bashing all you want, they lost they must be crap right? I know a lot of you believe that, but how many of you can say your country is champions of their own FIFA region? No one from Liverpool or Mexico can say that.
Northern Ireland, and no disrespect to the Green & White Army intended, would win CONCACAF.
Brazil has played in the Gold Cup at least 3 times and never gone home champions. Colombia has at least twice and never gone home champions.
I’m not trying to say CONCACAF is on the same level as UEFA here, but I wish it was possible that Northern Ireland would get invited to the next Gold Cup. I’d love to place a friendly wager on their tournament success.
I don’t mean disrespect to the Green & White either, no disrespect to anyone for that matter.
