Does Landon Donovan have a weakness?

As I was going to dig to see what I could find out about Landon Donovan’s loan to Everton I read something interesting.  What would you say Landon Donovan’s weakness is?

Donovan has been a beast for the United States throughout his career.  He’s set records and won numerous awards.  His MLS career isn’t too shabby either.  He had spent some time playing in Germany on multiple occasions.  According to ESPNsoccernet’s profile of Donovan:

Weaknesses: Perhaps playing on German soil.

So how do you think Donovan will do for Everton?  I hope that every EPL team wants him before his short loan is over.  I know it is only a loan – but a team with Donovan and Tim Howard is a team I will always be cheering for.

MLS Best XI

How does this look for a best XI lineup.  This is the group that was named to the MLS best XI for this 2009 season.  Only a single player from the best XI will be represented in the MLS Cup this Sunday.  That is of course Landon Donovan – US player of the decade.

Conor Casey – Jeff Cunningham

Dwayne De Rosario – Landon Donovan – Stuart Holden – Shalrie Joseph – Freddie Ljungberg

Geoff Cameron – Wilman Conde – Chad Marshall

Zach Thornton

So what do you think, is this a good lineup?  Is there anyone more deserving of a spot here?

Who are the biggest surprises to NOT see on the roster for this year’s All Star Game?

Seattle Sounders FC dominating all star voting

Fan voting is under way for this years MLS All Star Game.  Just like with other all star games sometimes the fans of one team can dominate the voting.  Luckily for everyone that is not on the Seattle Sounders FC roster the fans vote only count 25% of the final tally to determine the starting 11.  If that were not the case – as of today the All Star starting 11 would be made up of 8 Seattle Sounders FC players.

Kasey Keller, Freddie Ljungberg, Fredy Montero, Osvaldo Alonso, Tyrone Marshall, Steve Zakuani and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado are the top 7 in the voting right now, while James Riley comes in at the 9th highest voting total.  Non-Seattle players currently in the top 11 are Columbus Crew defender Frankie Hejduk, TFC’s Dwayne De Rosario and LA Galaxy’s Landon Donovan.

How would that be for a starting lineup?

The team that is 8 points ahead of anyone else in the league (Chivas USA) would not even be represented.  Certainly someone there must be worthy?  Would Brian McBride not make the starting 11?  How about Josh Wolff?

Maybe Seattle will get into gear and get a starting 11 fully represented by Seattle Sounders FC players.  That would be swell.  Would MLS realize then that fan voting for all stars is a bad idea?

What do you think?  Should fans still be able to get 25% of decision of who starts the all star game?

Taylor Twellman transfer rumors

Would the New England Revolution be willing to trade Taylor Twellman?  mls-rumors.net has a story that the Revolution might be getting ready to do just that.  They suggest that LA Galaxy might be his future home.

I couldn’t imagine this happening unless Donovan actually leaves the team full time to play in Germany.  Then they might need someone like Twellman to replace Donovan.  What do you think?  What are the chances Twellman goes to LA, and what would the Revolution get for him?

Donovan Set for Bayern loan

Landon Donovan has been training with Bayern Munich the past week and a half and has impressed coach Jurgen Klinsmann enough to get him a loan. Klinsamann is going to bring Landon to Bayern on a loan contract that will run from the 1st of January through the middle of March. His goal will be to keep him longer – at least until the end of the German Bundesliga season, which runs through most of May.

Have we seen the end of Donovan’s days in Major League Soccer?

Donovan is training with Bayern Munich

We’ve heard rumors throughout the second half of the season that Landon Donovan would be targeting Germany as his home after the current MLS season.  Tuesday Donovan has started a 10 day training trial with the German club Bayern Munich.

Donovan played in Germany previously but failed to make an impact with Bayer Leverkusen between 2001 and 2005.

ESPN Soccernet reports that Donovan is happy to be training in Germany with his friend and current Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann.  There is no mention of a done deal to get him to come to the club full time.  Maybe after the 10 day trial training period?
