So the New York Red Bulls made it to MLS Cup. I was wrong. Alexi Lalas was wrong. He has consequences to pay. People should expect me to be wrong. I was so sure RSL was gonna beat the Red Bulls, I’m glad I didn’t agree to do anything in case of a Red Bulls victory. Lalas now has to shotgun a can of Red Bull before MLS Cup.
The Red Bulls and the Columbus Crew have had a long journey to get to MLS Cup. They have had very different routes. The Crew were in 1st place in the league for a lot of the year and finished with the best record. They were the first team to qualify for the playoffs. The Red Bulls needed help from other teams to get in. They left the door open for both DC United and Colorado Rapids to take that playoff position if either team could get a win on the last week of the regular season.
One soccer mom is involved in a very different road to MLS Cup. Watch and see what I mean.
The Galaxy open their season tonight against a tough J-League opponent in Hawaii. The game will be televised but will only be available on ESPN Classic, so I hope you are all lucky enough to have Classic. David Beckham has warned his Galaxy teammates that Gamba Osaka will provide a tough test. I guess playing in the 2006 World Cup that took place partially in Japan means he knows the strength of those J-League teams like no one else.
If the Galaxy manage to get past the J.League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup Champions they will play in the championship game on Saturday, possibly against the two time defending MLS Cup champions Houston Dynamo.
Here is one thing the Galaxy might not have been counting on – the Gamba Boy. How do you deal with the Gamba Boy? He harnesses the awesome power of lightning in his right hand while trapping a ball with his left foot. Not even the mighty Beckham can do that. Maybe Alexi Lalas could do that if he was still in his prime.
After initially writing about the supposed escape clause in David Beckham’s contract with the LA Galaxy I found a more reliable source. In this article Lalas claims that there is no escape clause and he fully expects Beckham to show up on time just as expected before the comments from Real Madrid’s president earlier today.
Supposedly Beckham’s agent has said there is no intention to do anything other than come to the Galaxy after the season in Spain is over.
