MLS season ticket sales for 2008

What Major League Soccer team do you think would have the most season ticket sales.  If you based your guess on success on the field you might guess that Houston, New England or DC United might have the biggest season ticket sales.  You’d be terribly wrong.  The LA Galaxy have the 2nd largest number which is a far distance from the top team.  The Galaxy are also the team that suffered the greatest drop in season ticket sales from last year.

Here is the full list as reported on The MLS Zone:

1. Toronto FC - 16,641 (+34%)
2. Los Angeles Galaxy - 7,915 (-15%)
3. D.C. United - 5,976 (+27%)
4. Real Salt Lake - 4,632 (+5%)
5. Houston Dynamo - 4,116 (+87%)
6. New England Revolution - 4,001 (+14%)
7. San Jose Earthquakes - 3,822
8. Columbus Crew - 3,227 (+1%)
9. New York Red Bulls - 3,170 (+33)
10. FC Dallas - 3,002 (-4%)
11. Colorado Rapids - 2,968 (+59%)
12. Chicago Fire - 2,759 (+8%)
13. Kansas City Wizards - 1,539 (+232%)
14. Chivas USA - 837 (-2%)

That is right, close to the bottom of the league Toronto FC has by far the highest amount of season tickets sold so far this year. They have sold over twice what the 2nd place Galaxy have sold!  I believe they were tops in this category last season as well.  So, does Toronto lead the league because they are a newer team or does Toronto just have that many more die hard MLS fans?

Slow but steady increase. That’s all MLS needs for now. The league is barely 13 seasons long, and , realistically, in 20 years, it could be a top 3 professional sports league in the country. Good news overall with the ticket sales. And the season doesn’t start for another 3 weeks or so.
