Gullit says Maldini isn’t good enough for MLS

I think I like this guy.  LA Galaxy manager Ruud Gullit had some words about his former team AC Milan.  Gullit thinks they are slow and old.  He specifically singles out Paulo Maldini saying that he’s not even good enough to play in MLS.   Maldini is an old guy with a ton of experience at all levels.  I don’t know why Gullit was talking about his former team, but I like that he’s kinda stickin up for MLS - but he’s coaching here so he has to, right?

Could Maldini cut it in MLS?  I bet there are some teams that would jump at the chance to get such an experienced player.  Some probably agree with Ruud and wouldn’t pick up a 40 year old (unless you are Houston and he was a goalkeeper).  I doubt any MLS teams would be willing to pay what it would probably cost to bring him in.

What do you think - would you like to have Maldini on your MLS team?

If I was a manager of a MLS team, I’d do anything to get Maldini…He’s old, but he’s still good, and if he can keep up in the Serie A I’m pretty sure he’ll have no problems in the MLS.

Rudd left on bad terms at AC when he switched back and forth from Sampdoria to Milan over 10 years ago and I’m wondering if he still doesn’t have sour grapes.
Gullit is just trying to show how good Americans soccer is and trying to make it better than it really is. Don’t get me wrong as I’m a big MLS fan and I follow both the Serie A & the MLS and want the US league to expand in to the worlds best. Beckham will have his trouble here and other stars may also as coming to America is no vacation. To play soccer in the heat of summer and in conditions unlike Europea is not all that easy.

I’m sure however, Maldini can still play in the MLS until he is 45. His goal for Milan yesterday opened up the match. If it weren’t for Pirlo missing the pk in the end Milan could have gained a point, Granted Maldini did get burned on an ensuing cross which led to an Atalanta goal but his presence is still overwhelming and if he can play with kids half his age, I’m sure he can still play in the MLS. The trouble with Maldini this year is AC Milan is not playing up to par…
