Giving 10 Yards For A Free Kick

I’m watching my recorded Man U vs AC Milan from earlier this afternoon, but this applies to MLS games as well.  It happens at every level of soccer that I’ve ever seen.  I’ve been guilty of it myself.  When a team receives a free kick anywhere within reasonable shooting distance from goal, a defender always comes and stands right in front of the ball to prevent a quick kick.  Am I the only one that is consistently pissed off by this?

During my playing career I scored a lot of goals, but one of my favorite goals was a championship game winning assist that I got to a teammate because I took a quick kick after being fouled.

I hope that something is done about this, it should be a quick yellow card t the defender that does not immediatly give room to take a kick.  It is not an option to give 10 yards right away, it is a requirement.  Refs should start enforcing it.

Am I wrong?  Is it only me that always notices this?
