Both former US National team players Kasey Keller and Clint Mathis are leaving their European clubs in order to head to the United States to play in Major League Soccer.
Kasey Keller began his career with the Portland Timbers 19 years ago. Since then he has spent some time with 7 different European clubs. Now Keller is the 2nd man on the brand new Seattle Sounders FC roster.
Clint Mathis has played with several MLS teams already in his career. His time in Major League Soccer included a poor season with Real Salt Lake in their first year of existence. Now Real Salt Lake is in first place in the West and they have re-acquired Mathis after he left MLS to play in Greece. Mathis played in 8 games and scored 1 goal for Greek club Ergotelis.

The Early Bath has an image that appears to be Clint Mathis training with the LA Galaxy. At first I thought maybe it was an old image – but Joey Franchino is also there and he has not been with the Galaxy for too long. Mathis went to Greece long before Franchino came to the Galaxy.
So what is Mathis doing there? Is Mathis going to end up back on the Galaxy roster? Would he get into the starting lineup if he did come back to the Galaxy?
After posting this I thought maybe that isn’t really Mathis. It really looks like Mathis so I looked at the Galaxy roster to see if they have a 33 on it. There is no number 33 on their roster.

Just a couple days ago I wrote about MLS rejecting a bid for Taylor Twellman. Well they’ve done it again. This time Preston North End has offered over twice their inital offer. They upped the $800,000 up to around $2,000,000 and the MLS has again rejected this offer. Preston have no intentions of going any higher than that.
Clint Mathis on the other hand is on his way to Europe. Mathis is headed to Greece to play for last place Ergotelis. Half way through the Greek Super League season Ergotelis has scored only 9 goals in 15 games. Hopefully Mathis can turn that around and keep Ergotelis in the Super League!
Good luck over there Clint!

There are rumors flying that Clint Mathis has been traded to the LA Galaxy for a 3rd round draft pick. Maybe they are more than rumors and the official announcement just hasn’t been made yet. Either way it sounds like the Galaxy are getting a good deal.
I’ll admit that Mathis was always one of my favorite players. I wish he had gotten more time with the US national team, but oh well. He played in 2002 world cup, pretty good showing for the US. He didn’t play in 2006 and look what happened.
The Red Bulls are going thru some big changes now with Bruce Arena and Clint Mathis gone, there are rumors that Claudio Reyna is on his way out as well. Where would Claudio go? Would Reyna stay in MLS, go back to a European league, or just retire?

The Kansas City Wizards with their 90th+ minute moved to the lone position at the top of the table. New York really didn’t want to keep that scoreless streak going by giving 3 to Real Salt Lake in a 3-3 tie. Mathis got a couple of goals to help out my fantasy team quite a bit.
I guess what I meant was not that Houston and Colorado would end in a tie, but that New York and Real Salt Lake would be the tie game. At least I was right about Kansas City.
DC United finally get a win, will they continue in their winning ways?

Has anyone got a video of whatever Clint did to get a red card this weekend? It sounded controversial and I missed it. I guess I better bench him on my fantasy team….

The Colorado Rapids (Colorado Arsenal or Arsenal Colorado or whatever they are) traded Clint Mathis away to New York. Other specifics of the deal are unknown, but I hope the Rapids got something good for Mathis, I had high hopes for Mathis this year in Colorado.
This will be Clint’s second term in New York, previously having played for the then MetroStars from 2000 to 2003.
From ESPNsoccernet:
The Colorado Rapids have traded Clint Mathis to the New York Red Bulls, ESPN.com has learned. Sources close to Mathis confirmed the deal, but complete details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
The 30 year-old Mathis is expected to join NYRB in Charleston, South Carolina where the team is training through Sunday in preparation for their season opener against the Columbus Crew on April 7.
