Houston Fans: You are welcome!

I really was picking the Revolution to win the MLS Cup yesterday.  I also figured that my pick would lead to the exact opposite thing happening.  I don’t know how much that effected my decision.  If I really think the Revolution are going to win – and I also think my prediction is going to affect the outcome of the game, how likely would I be to convince myself to pick the other team?  I think the human brain is more powerful than we even know, and I really was picking this game exactly as it happened.

Okay, my picks have just sucked recently, that is all there is to it.

I guess we just start looking forward to next season now.

MLS Cup predictions

My predictions started out so well but turned so bad and I don’t think that will change today.  I may as well just admit defeat now and not even try, but I’m stubborn so here goes.   I’m going to pick the Revolution to end their terrible streak of not winning the Cup.  Taylor Twellman scores 2 goals but Matt Reis is the MVP.

There you go Dynamo fans, I’ve practically guaranteed a Dynamo victory.

MLS Cup rematch

Well the Dynamo knocked out the Wizards this weekend.  I didn’t watch the game until later.  I had to have the DVR pick it up for me.

I watched the game pretty late at night and had a few drinks before hand.  So it was like some kind of self protection thing that happened.  I dozed off during the game and woke up to see the Dynamo had scored.  I was glad I didn’t have to see it happen.  I did see the rest of the game.

Dynamo win was going to be my prediction, but I guess I can’t take credit for that since I didn’t post it.  On to the final, prediction coming soon.  No one can win like the Dynamo can and no one can lose the big game quite like the Revolution can.  What will happen this time?

Predictions typos

The sun was in my eyes before the game tonite when I predicted the Fire to win. It was really windy and my fingers were slipping all over the keyboard. That was an accident that I said I predicted the Fire to win.

How about that goal scored by TT, was that the goal of the year?

So Blanco – his main job was to tell the ref what was going on, and he was pretty busy with that one. When he wasn’t explaining things to the ref he was playing some awfully nice balls into the penalty area. It is just too bad that those were going towards Paulo Wanchope. I’m pretty sure if you got Blanco and Brian Ching together that no defense in MLS would stop them. If I was in charge of the Fire I’d do whatever I could to get Ching. Houston has a lot of stars, they could let one of them go.

Now the Revolution are in another MLS Cup. The defending Champions Houston Dynamo will probably show up to play a re-match of last years MLS Cup, but they have to get by the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday first. It is too early for me to give my prediction for the other semi-final. I’ll probably wait until the last minute and pick the Wizards just because I’ll be cheering for them, be totally wrong and embarrassed. Oh well…

I really did think the Fire were gonna win.

Thursday playoff prediction

I’ve got 30 seconds tonite before the game.  I had a hard time picking this game, but I’m going with the Fire.  The Revolution are the best at losing the big game, but I think Chicago is going to get there instead.

Predicting the postseason

Well a weekend full of season ending games and a couple more end of the year awards have been finalized. How are my predictions going?

I correctly predicted that the 4th seed Chicago Fire took out overall league leaders DC United.

I also predicted that the 5th place (East) Kansas City Wizards would defeat 1st place (West) Chivas USA. That happened after a 1-0 KC win in KC and a scoreless draw back in LA this weekend.

Both of the #2 seeds advanced like I predicted, but Houston had to come back and use overtime to dispose of FC Dallas. The Revolution just got a single goal from Taylor Twellman to drop the Red Bulls.

I correctly picked the goalkeeper of the year and the fair play award. The newest awards were given to Eddie Johnson for comeback player of the year, and then the first one I got wrong was defender of the year. Eddie Robinson was my prediction but Michael Parkhurst won the award. So much for a perfect round of post season predictions…

So the next round looks like this:

Chicago Fire @ New England Revolution

Kansas City Wizards @ Houston Dynamo

It looks like we are set up for a repeat of last years MLS Cup, but I’m not making my predictions yet. I imagine KC and Houston both are hoping for a Revolution win on Thursday because no one can lose the big game quite like the Revolution can.

ps – I kinda thought the LA Galaxy might beat Hollywood United yesterday, which they apparently did, 12 – 4.

Chicago Fire drop top seeded DC United out of the playoffs

After the Chicago Fire’s 1-0 win at their home in Toyota Park they had to go to DC, one of the toughest places to play in all of MLS.  Expectations were high for DC United even though they were coming into the game down by a goal.

Chad Barret and Chris Rolfe both scored for the Fire in the first half and the season appeared to be just about over for DC United being down 3-0 on aggregate.  The holders of the Supporters’ Shield was not ready to give up quite that easily.  DC came out and tied the game up in the second half with goals from Clyde Simms and Christian Gomez and pushed hard for the third goal to tie the series.  Christian Gomez even scored the series tying goal in the 92nd minute, but it was rules that he handled the ball prior to the goal.  The replay showed it was probably a good call but in real time I had no idea why the ref was not allowing the goal.

The game ended 2-2 which was enough to send Chicago through to the conference finals on a 3-2 aggregate score.

Playoffs are on

Just as the Fire and DC United have kicked off this 2007 playoffs I found this interesting article from a Chicago sports writer.  Kinda funny and I felt kinda the same when I was thinking about who was going to win this series.  Not at all that anyone cares who I pick, just that I had a hard time.  I don’t think DC is going to be able to do it.

Fire for the win.

Kansascity.com predicts the Wizards to beat Chivas USA

Kansascity.com’s sports section has a bit of a preview of the playoffs along with their predictions.  They have picked the Wizards to take a 4-3 victory this weekend over Chivas USA.  I thought I was the only one that was going to pick the 5th place team from the east to beat the west champions.

The more interesting thing about this is that they have 2 players to watch for each team.  For each team the goalkeeper is one of the players to watch.

The best part is that they have Dario Sala listed as a player to watch.  ESPN watches Beckham when he’s on the bench, so why shouldn’t Kansascity.com watch Sala when he’s on the bench?  Ray Burse Jr. has been the starting keeper for FC Dallas lately.  I don’t know if Sala is scheduled to start or not, but I could think of several guys that should probably be on the players to watch list before Sala.  What the hell?

MLS 2008 Playoff Schedule and Predictions
