The US Soccer Foundation has shown some interest in becoming an alternative host for the 2014 World Cup if no South American country emerges as a host. Brazil is likely but if they have any kind of problems, the US could step in and take over hosting duties for the 2nd time since my soccer career began. In 1994 the US set attendance records for the world cup, which was a big influence in the creation of the MLS, and thus the strength of our national team today.
England is possibly looking to be a host 4 years later in 2018, but if the World Cup does go to South America in 2014, the US could rival England for hosting duties. Between now and either of those years, I think the US could potentially take the steps they need to make in order be really be considered a serious challenger for the the World Cup. Hopefully we get to host one of those years!
