Troy Perkins is on his way out of DC United and MLS. He is headed to Valerenga, an Oslo based Norwegian team. DC United acquired Zach Wells from Houston Dynamo last week.
Valerenga paid somewhere around three quarters of a million dollars for Troy Perkins and signed him to a contract that will get him about $200,000/year, which is a little over twice what he was making at DC United.
Perkins started out on a development contract in 2004 making $850/month. He worked his way up to goalkeeper of the year last year.
Rumors are flying about the possible opponents for this 2008 MLS All-Star Game. In the past few years we’ve seen Fulham, Chelsea, and Celtic all cross the pond to get beat by our MLS All-Stars! Now there are 4 more big European teams that have been mentioned. Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the teams rumored to be possibilities. Any of these would be great games for the MLS All-Stars, and hopefully the MLS can keep its streak of beating the world’s top clubs in this game!
Who would be the best option for this coming years All-Star game?
Two MLS teams recently found out who they will be facing in next year’s CONCACAF Champions Cup. Two time defending MLS Cup winners Houston Dynamo will meet Municipal of Guatemala. The Supporters’ Shield winners DC United will face Harbour View (Jamaica). Here is the whole list of match ups.
Juan Carlos Osorio will be replacing Bruce Area at New York Red Bulls this coming season. Osorio has been in NY before, both as a player and as an assistant coach. This past season he turned the Chicago Fire season which was a disaster before his arrival.
Osorio has spent time on the coaching staffs of Club Deportivo Millonarios, Manchester City, New York Metrostars, and most recently as the head coach of the Chicago Fire.
The Fire received 2 MLS SuperDraft picks in return for allowing the Red Bulls to talk to Osorio.
