I heard a rumor about a possible trade or sale of last years league top scorer Jeff Cunningham to Maccabi Netanya in Isreal. I don’t know anything about that team, or any Isreal team for that matter, but this still seems hard to beleive to me.
Could it be possible?

Claudio Reyna’s contract has been terminated by Manchester City, leaving Reyna free to move back to his home in NY. With a home already in NY, and his old college and national team coach (Bruce Arena) coaching the New York Red Bulls, it seems likely that he would join the Red Bulls for next season.
It is too bad he couldn’t keep on with Manchester City, but it is good for the MLS to get American International stars. Reyna actually retired from international soccer after the poor showing the Americans turned in at the 2006 world cup. Reyna was on the roster for the World Cup in 94, 98, 2002, and 2006.
With Amanda G. gone, the addition of Arean and Reyna it might be time for me to pull the old MetroStars shirt out of the garbage bin?

Recent reports claim that Beckham might get out of his contract at Real Madrid in time to be in LA for the beginning of the season due to the fact that their manager said he would never play for Real Madrid again. The CBC is reporting that this is not a possiblity:
The verdict is in: David Beckham will not be leaving Real Madrid for Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy before the end of the Spanish league season.
“One thing is clear, he [Beckham] still has six months left in his contract,” Real Madrid sporting director Pedrag Mijatovic said Monday. “He has to complete his contract.”
Too bad for LA, not too bad for their early season opponents.

According to rumors flying all over the internet there are several really big name clubs interested in signing Oguchi Onyewu. The first was Fulham, and I was really pulling for them to get him. Now there are many others that could certainly dish out more money, and be more attractive for any player to go to:
- Chelsea
- Real Madrid
- Middlesbrough
- Inter Milan
- Lyon
That is quite a list of teams at or near the top of their leagues in England, Spain, Italy and France; A lot of the best leagues in the world represented right there. I’m still pullin for Fulham, I want to see 4 americans starting at a successfull EPL club.

Robbie Fowler has been told that he won’t be with Liverpool again next year. If he couldn’t play at Liverpool again he’d consider retiring from football, but a potential move to the MLS may change his mind. Somehow he has been connected with a move to DC United.
This is part of the article from the Sunday Mirror
ROBBIE Fowler is ready to follow David Beckham into MLS and join DC United.
With Becks-mania hitting the US many of LA Galaxy’s rivals are looking to recruit high-profile European stars to exploit the new popularity of football in the States.

After giving up the first goal of the game the US fought back to tie the game before halftime, and then added a pair in the 2nd half to complete a 3-1 victory over a very inexperienced Denmark team.
Landon Donovan scored his frist goal in over 18 games with a poorly struck penalty that should have been saved, but it counts when it hits the back of the net, and it was enough to send the teams into the locker room at halftime with a 1-1 tie. In the second half Justin Mapp, a halftime sub, made a great run all the way down the right wing, broke thru 2 defenders and from the end line sent a beautiful pass into Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA) who game the US the lead in his very first cap for the US. Later in the 2nd half Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas) came on to get his first cap and went on to score the 3rd US goal.
This is a great start for Bob Bradley as the temporary coach, it will be what I beleive one step towards him getting that coaching spot full time.

Bob Bradley gets his first game at the head of US soccer. Bradley has a roster made up almost completely of MLS players, with Dan Califf and Heath Pearce the only exceptions.
Goalkeepers (2) – Joe Cannon (Los Angeles Galaxy), Matt Reis (New England Revolution)
Defenders (7) – Chris Albright (Los Angeles Galaxy), Bobby Boswell (D.C. United), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Dan Califf (Aalborg BK), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Bryan Namoff (D.C. United), Heath Pearce (FC Nordsjælland)
Midfielders (4) – Kyle Beckerman (Colorado Rapids), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Justin Mapp (Chicago Fire), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids)
Forwards (5) –Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Eddie Johnson (Kansas City Wizards), Nate Jaqua (Los Angeles Galaxy), Chris Rolfe (Chicago Fire)
I predict Nate Jaqua for a hat trick and a big US win!

We’ve heard the Beckham rumor for a long time, not its a done deal. We’ve heard the Ronaldo rumor for a while, but this is a new one. Could Barcelona and Brazilian star Ronaldinho be the next big signing for the MLS.
Here is the beginning of the article from goal.com
The MLS is in the process of finalizing plans to bring more high profile players from Europe in the USA, and Ronaldinho’s name is next on the list.
The likes of Ronaldo and Figo have also been considered, but it is largely believed that only Ronaldinho can come even close to replicating the craze that has followed David Beckham’s signing.
I can’t imagine someone like Ronaldinho coming to play at Kansas City, but New York could be a possiblity. I always thought Rondaldo to the New York Red Bulls would be the next major star coming to MLS.

Playing for Real Madrid of course. In case there are any MLS fans that don’t know about much outside the US, this is the team that David Beckham is coming from, one of the biggest clubs in the world.
So why am I writing about Zidane on the MLS Fan Blog? Cause we’ve got over 2 months until the start of the season and it was just too weird to pass up on.
Aparently Zidane is the subject of some move/documentary thing that I now really want to see. Sounds kinda weird, just enough to crank my interest. I doubt it will be easy to find, so if anyone knows where I can get my hands on that, let me know.

With Bob Bradley gone to the Olympic and Men’s National team the Chivas have given the top job to one of Bradley’s assistants and former MLS, US MNT star and one of my all time favorite players Preki.
Preki had an amazing career in Major League Soccer, most of it spent with the Kansas City Wizards along with one year with the Miami Fusion.
From the LA Times:
During 10 seasons in MLS, all but one of them with the Kansas City Wizards, Preki scored 89 goals and had 117 assists in 266 regular-season and playoff games. Known for his cutback moves and his deadly left-foot shot, he helped the Wizards win the MLS title in 2000.
A devotee of yoga, Preki is renowned for his fitness. He was the league’s most valuable player in 1997 and again in 2003, when he was 40 years old, and also won the league’s scoring title.

Congratulations Preki, If your coaching career is half as successfull as your playing career, Chivas will be very well off!
